BOOKING

If people book in advance it helps us to estimate what facilities to provide. Priority will be given to those who have booked (particularly during the main weekend)

Future camps may be open to subscribers and booked guests only.

Please use our online form or our postal address.

ACTIVITIES

The camp is not a festival, but a very interesting place to put your tent. It is personal, informal and relaxing. You can help to make the solar showers and learn about renewable energy. How much conservation work you do, if any, is up to you. Simply relax if you wish. Activities include sustainable technology and conservation projects, organised walks, music and martial arts. Games and child care organised by parents.. Events timetables may be found on the dates page.

MUSIC

Varied acoustic music is played at the camp, with some story telling and poetry.. In 1998 some excellent Blues was heard with over 50 people often around the fire, so bring an instrument to play or simply listen to others. Music sessions may continue until 1.00 am but should not be of a volume that will disturb you if camping more than 50 metres from the campfire. Expect some later nights and a merrier atmosphere at the main weekend.
No amplified music or drums please
The camp is near Sidmouth, which hosts the largest international Folk Festival in Northern Europe. People come from all over the world to play music in the local pubs, streets, and on the beaches. Camp visitors may include booked Festival performers
Why not combine visiting the Folk Festival with learning about conservation?

FACILITIES

Our facilities are functional although not luxurious. We do not hire equipment but construct our own large solar showers (free) with a wood burner back up for cloudy days. There are basic, organic flush toilets. Mains and natural bore hole water. No mains electricity. Solar and wind power for some lighting and essential camp equipment only. Large shelters are constructed for wet weather. Don't forget your tent and basic camping gear!
Village shop, post office and friendly pub nearby.

FOOD

There is a constantly burning large camp fire for people to cook on but please be prepared to take turns (grates and some pans provided) By all means bring your own cookers or eat in the café, open during the busy period of the camp. Cooked by our French Chef Maurice (visiting from his alternative Swiss Bistro) there will be a choice of affordable vegan, vegetarian and meat dishes. Great value breakfasts will also be available. For safety reasons no individual open fires please.

SECURITY

Camp visitors and supporters include Martial Arts experts and local Police but ICAN has never had reason to request security assistance. However please understand that ICAN cannot accept any liability for loss or damage.

YOUTH GROUPS

We welcome schools and youth groups. Please check your insurance. We have a form for exempting ICAN from insurance of youth groups.

DOGS

A beautiful field is available adjoining the main field for those who are camping with dogs. They must be secured on a leash at all times, under control and any mess cleared up. They are not allowed in the main field.
